The Building News, Jan 28 1887
1885 - 32 x 21 cm

Original antique photo lithograph. Printed area 280 x 180 mm. W. V. Gough, Architect. Perspective and plan. The Dispensary was founded in 1775 by Tabernacle Methodists and was in various premises until its closure in 1948 with the advent of the NHS. This building was destroyed in WWII.

A very attractive and finely engraved mid 19th century view of an industrial Bristol which was published in The Land We Live In (Charles Knight, London: 1847-1851)
c1849 - 40 x 35.5 cm

W. Harvey, del. From a sketch by S. T. Davis, T. A. Prior, sc. This original steel engraving with later hand colour is in a grey-green bevelled mount within a gilt frame. Mount window 225 x 165 mm; frame 400 x 355 mm overall. Appears in very good condition but not examined out of the frame. Please see images.

1809 - 32 x 27 cm

Bristol is seen from afar with St Mary Redcliffe to the left without its spire, several pottery kilns emitting smoke, etc. The print is in a Hogarth frame, glazed. The bevelled gold ruled ivory mount has a window size: 185 x 130mm, frame overall: 320 x 270mm. Appears in good condition except for very light toning at the edge of the mount window and paper not entirely flat near the lower right corner but not examined out of the frame.

Visitors look out over the Avon Gorge towards Leigh Woods and Nightingale Valley just downstream of the point from which the Clifton suspension bridge now passes over the river Avon.
